Prefiltering and Trellis-Based Equalization for Sparse ISI Channels

چکیده
Sparse intersymbol-interference (ISI) channels are encountered in a variety of high-data-rate communication systems. Such channels have a large channel memory length, but only a small number of significant channel coefficients. In this paper, trellis-based equalization of sparse ISI channels is revisited. Due to the large channel memory length, the complexity of maximumlikelihood detection, e.g., by means of the Viterbi algorithm, is normally prohibitive, and efficient equalization with an acceptable complexity-performance trade-off is a demanding task. We investigate a unified approach to tackle general sparse ISI channels: It is shown that the use of a linear filter at the receiver renders the application of standard reduced-state trellis-based equalizer algorithms feasible, without significant loss of optimality. Numerical results verify the efficiency of the proposed receiver structure.

Equalization of Sparse Intersymbol-Interference Channels Revisited
Sparse intersymbol-interference (ISI) channels are encountered in a variety of communication systems, especially in high-datarate systems. متن کاملIterative Parallel-Trellis MAP Equalizers with Nonuniformly-Spaced Prefilters for Sparse Multipath Channels
A maximum a posteriori (MAP) equalizer is derived in this paper by formulating the forward/backward recursion MAP algorithm (i.e. the BCJR algorithm) on a paralleltrellis representation that was previously proposed for equalizing sparse multipath channels. Several enhancements are suggested to further improve the performance and/or reduce the complexity of the resultant MAP equalizer. Results s...
متن کاملOn Prefiltering for Reduced–State Equalization of MIMO Channels
In this paper, we consider prefiltering for reduced–state equalization of frequency–selective multiple–input multiple–output (MIMO) channels. We introduce the minimum– and maximum–phase equivalent MIMO system transfer functions, respectively, and show their relation to zero–forcing decision–feedback equalization (ZF–DFE). Furthermore, energy concentration properties of the minimum– and maximum–...
متن کاملEqualization of Sparse Isi Channels Using Parallel Trellises
| The Viterbi algorithm (VA) can be reformulated such that the calculations can be performed over a set of independent parallel trellises for a class of sparse channels. This new algorithm named the parallel trellis Viterbi algorithm (PTVA) reduces the complexity of the Viterbi algorithm, however, it has no loss in performance for the special class of intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. Pr...
متن کاملISI sparse channel estimation based on SL0 and its application in ML sequence-by-sequence equalization
In this paper, which is an extended version of our work at LVA/ICA 2010 [1], the problem of Inter Symbol Interface (ISI) Sparse channel estimation and equalization will be investigated. We firstly propose an adaptive method based on the idea of Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm and the concept of smoothed l0 (SL0) norm presented in [2] for estimation of sparse ISI channels. Afterwards, a new no...
